GOPIO and NFIA pay tributes to Indian politician Raj K. Purohit who was involved in promoting Diaspora activities

The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) International joined hands with the National Federation of Indian American Associations (NFIA) to pay special tributes to Maharashtra political leader the Late Shri Raj Purohit who was an advisor for many years for both Organizations and was a big Supporter and attended many events for both Organizations.

The program started with a couple of videos on Purohit and his funeral. It was followed by a minute silence and prayers.

GOPIO Chairman Dr. Thomas Abraham, President Prakash Shah and General Secretary Sid Jain spoke and paid rich tributes to Purohit who passed away ;ast month on January 18th. GOPIO Associate Secretary Vatsala Upadhyay and Cultural and Youth Council Chairs Rajul Shah and Vasu Powar respectively participated in the event. NFIA President Satish Parikh and former NFIA President Subash Razdan also spoke and paid Tributes. Former GOPIO and NFIA President Niraj Baxi who was a close personal friend of Purohit and instrumental in inducing Purohit to get involved in the Diaspora activities was the Moderator.

Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University Dr. Neerja Gupta spoke about her own experience in 2005 when Purohit went out of his way to assist her in an emergency situation. Serial Entrepreneur and Silicon Valley Doyen Raj Jaswa spoke eloquently about his relationship with Raj Purohitji.

Prominent Mumbai businessman Raju Solanki who is Head of Federation of Maharashtra Chambers of Commerce and a close friend ofRaj Purohitji also spoke about his experience. GOPIO Ahmedabad President Advocate Nachiket Dave also paid his tributes.

Mumbai Corporate Counselor Akash Purohit who has been appointed as GOPIO Advisor and Chief Guest spoke about his father’s large political legacy and vowed to continue that legacy and serve the Diaspora community like his father did. At times Akash became emotional talking about his father Raj Purohit,
